St George’s Day music and theatre

Gravesend town centre is keeping its St George’s Day tradition with mediaeval ‘mummers’ and a big brass band.

On Easter Saturday (23 April) which coincides with St George’s Day, shoppers are invited to New Road to hear The Salvation Army Band play some traditional big brass music. The Big Fish Theatre Company will also be in town re-enacting the noble tale of St George and the Dragon.

Flags go up in town

THE flags have gone up in Gravesend ready for Kent’s biggest street party on the eve of the Royal Wedding and the festivities for St George’s Day.

Union Jacks and the St George’s flags have been strung across the route of the parade together with bunting along the roads. They cover New Road, High Street and Windmill Street. The flags went up yesterday (Monday).

The wedding will be marked in style in Gravesham with a parade through Gravesend town centre and street party on 28 April at the new Civic Square in front of the Civic Centre.

PARADE MARKS ROYAL WEDDING CELEBRATIONS

THE Royal Wedding will be marked in style in Gravesham with a parade through Gravesend town centre and party on the eve of the big day on the new Civic Square in front of the Civic Centre.

And the council is asking for local people who come from all the countries of the Commonwealth to take part. Already 450 young people from local schools are taking part and are currently working with artists to prepare things to carry in the parade.

Roary the Racing Car

Roary the number one little racing car zooms into theatres for the very first time in a brand new live stage show.

Mums, dads, boys and girls are invited to attend the ‘Champion of Champions’ race at Silver Hatch as Roary gets set to battle it out with Maxi, Cici, and all the other cars to win the race and lift the trophy.

‘The Blake Gallery’ named in honour of the Gravesend educated artist Sir Peter Blake will be officially opened on Tuesday 22 March by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Michael Snelling.

Sir Peter Blake is best known for designing the cover of the Beatles album, Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and the poster for Live Aid, the world’s largest ever multi-national pop concert in aid of famine relief in Africa.

Press are invited to see the Leader of the Council open the gallery at 6.15pm and view its first exhibition ‘Maiden Voyage’, by the local art group RivArt.
