CHRISTMAS EVENTS TAKING PLACE IN HAVERING LIBRARIES THIS DECEMBER

A range of festive events will be taking place in Havering libraries in the run up to Christmas including craft sessions for children and classes in making the perfect Christmas cupcake.

Children’s activities include:

● Mini Christmas tree craft at Collier Row Library, children can make their own mini Christmas trees, 2.30pm, Thursday 23 December, tickets £3.50

TWELVE SAFETY MESSAGES FOR CHRISTMAS

Residents will be able to get their hands on free purse chains and other security devices to protect their homes and personal property in the run-up to Christmas, thanks to Havering Council.

Council officers will hand out the devices as part of its Safer Days Of Christmas campaign to make residents safer while shopping and out at night, and their homes more secure over the festive season.

There are 12 key messages that the Council and police want to get out at this time of year including protecting yourself against pickpockets.

Children’s prizes up for grabs at Hornchurch Christmas Cracker

The Hornchurch Christmas Cracker is set to provide an evening of Christmas cheer with bands, carol singers, dancers and circus skills performers ready to descend on the Town Centre on December 10.
As part of the celebrations, from December 1, children aged between five and 11 can have the chance to take part in a competition around the town centre.

BUY WITH CONFIDENCE BREAKFAST

Local firms are being invited to attend a free business breakfast to find out more about the Council’s Buy With Confidence Scheme.

Buy With Confidence helps residents by putting them in touch with businesses they can trust, and helps good businesses by introducing new customers to them.

The business breakfast on Thursday 16 December will be at CEME, Marsh Way, Rainham, RM13 8EU between 7.30am and 9.30am.

Guest speakers will be Glen Addis, East London Business Place and Yvonne Bendall from Havering Council.

CALL TO BUSINESSES TO JOIN HAVERINGCARD SCHEME

Havering Council is encouraging more local buisnesses to sign up to the Haveringcard scheme which was recently relaunched in time for the run up to Christmas.

The scheme offers every resident with a Haveringcard, discounts and special offers at particpating local businesses across the borough.

It provides an opportunity for buisnesses to attract more custom from people living locally by offering a discount or special offer.

RESIDENTS ASKED TO NOMINATE FAMOUS OR HISTORICAL FIGURES FROM HAROLD HILL

Havering Council is asking residents put forward the names of famous or historical figures from Harold Hill, who they would like to see represented on a ‘portrait’ bench in the area.

The bench will be funded by sustainable transport charity Sustrans as part of the Ingebourne Way Connect2 Project, which is currently underway in the borough and will create a 13-mile long walking and cycling route through Havering.

FESTIVE EVENTS KICK OFF THE CHRISTMAS SEASON IN HAVERING LIBRARIES THIS NOVEMBER

Christmas may still be more than a month away but Havering libraries have a host of events lined up throughout November to get residents into the festive spirit.

From making floral art to decorate the house this Christmas, to decorating festive cupcakes and learning a new skill such as painting, there is something for all ages.

Events include:

At Hornchurch Library:

● Christmas floral art demonstration, Monday 22 November, 6.30 to 9.30pm, tickets £3

● Painting with watercolours demonstration, Thursday 25 November, 6.30 to 9pm, £5

FESTIVE EVENTS TO BRING CHRISTMAS SPIRIT TO HAVERING

A range of Christmas themed events will be taking place in all corners of the borough in the run-up to the festive period, following the Christmas light switch on in Romford on Tuesday 16 November.

Toys will be the theme of the annual Elm Park Illuminations which takes place on Friday 26 November from 4.30 to 7pm in the town centre. There will be a free Santa’s grotto and two American miniature horses dressed for the occasion. Guests can enjoy carousel rides, stilt walkers, jugglers, face painting and snow, whatever the weather.

SERVICES TO BE HELD TO REMEMBER THOSE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES AT WAR

On Remembrance Sunday (November 14), the Mayor of Havering, Councillor Pam Light, will attend the borough’s official Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial, Coronation Gardens, Romford, from 10.55am.
The Deputy Mayor will attend the Remembrance Sunday Service at St Andrew’s Church, Hornchurch. Wreaths will be laid by past Mayors representing the current Mayor at services in Harold Hill, Rainham and Upminster. All services will observe a two minute silence at 11am.

MAGICAL CHRISTMAS EVENT TO BRING FESTIVE CHEER TO ROMFORD

Characters from the Harry Potter books will be bringing some magic to proceedings at the annual Christmas light switch-on in Romford on Tuesday 16 November.

The free, family event will be at the Market Place with entertainment including Kryptic Fusion Dance Crew, winners of Essex Got Talent, Eurovision singer Josh Dubovie and singer/songwriter Emel Michael. Look-alikes of Harry Potter and friends will also be performing wizardry and illusions on stage.

Entertainment starts at 4.30pm and the lights will be officially switched on at 6.30pm, accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display.
