Surely, there must be lots of things happening here... but our team hasn't been told about them either.

Please get in touch, say what you were hoping to find, maybe suggest some local businesses & we'll do the rest. Thank you very much... we'll drop you a note shortly with an update of our progress.

New venue for Plymouth

Tags:

I had the privilege last week of being given a tour of a new venue in Plymouth. Following a huge regeneration project of Devonport, the Guildhall which was built in the 1800s has undergone a terrific faceift, whilst maintaining it's original features. Right in the heart of a new housing develop, I can see it becoming a great space for the area.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Exotic Places and Italian Seas - An exhibition of intricate mosaics by Jude Freeman at 45 Southside

Jude makes contemporary mosaics using modern and traditional methods. Mosaic has a strong history, but she feel it has so far been under-represented in the realm of contemporary art.

"I first encountered mosaic in an historical context and was motivated to study its development through history. Initially I used mosaic to decorate objects, but then realised mosaic deserves to be appreciated as a piece of art in its own right and I began making contemporary wall panels – painting with ceramic." [Jude Freeman}

She does not use grout and the tesserae are placed closely together.

Kati Vamos to exhibit her smoke-fired, brunished earthenware ceramics 45 Southside

Kati was born and lived until her early twenties in Budapest, Hungary, before moving to England in 1965. For over 25 years now her home has been Devon in the South West of the country, a county famous both for wonderful scenery and long traditions of pottery.

Her love and fascination with clay and ceramics stayed with her all her life.
