Bank Holidays Set to Boost Sunny Eastbourne

The UK’s sunniest place is looking forward to the double Bank Holiday expecting thousands of visitors to spend Easter and the Royal Wedding weekends in Eastbourne bringing millions of pounds into the local economy.

With a sunny forecast and temperatures expected to rival overseas destinations, Eastbourne is using its top sunshine status and major events to attract visitors into town over the next two weekends.

Eastbourne Ready for Extreme Battle of the Bands

More than 20 acts are being drummed up for the biggest Battle of the Bands yet in Eastbourne with weekly heats getting underway next month to find the most popular acts to perform on stage at Eastbourne Extreme in July.

Battle of the Bands will start on Sunday 15 May at TJs Nightclub in Eastbourne with 2010 winners Spaniels Ears returning to perform and drawing the three bands that will play on each week over the eight week countdown.

Automobile Timeline at Magnificent Motors

Eastbourne is getting ready for its free annual motoring spectacular with cars more than one hundred years old getting ready to exhibit at Magnificent Motors on the Bank Holiday weekend.

Attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year, Magnificent Motors is moving to a new, bigger location at Princes Park next weekend from 30 April – 1 May and with over 500 entries, visitors can look forward to real vintage displays including an 1897 Henriod Phaeton, a 1902 Locomobile Spindle Seat and a 1909 Brush Runabout.

Creative Partnerships Themed Enquiry Programme

Eastbourne’s award-winning art gallery Towner is delighted to be the lead organisation for a Creative Partnerships Themed Enquiry Programme and will be celebrating the results with a Towner Takeover Day on Thursday 28 April.

Since January Towner has been working with three local primary schools Oakwood, Langney and Bourne for the project, which aims to look at how over 160 pupils and their families can find fun and creative ways to learn through Towner and school life.

To celebrate the final countdown to the Royal Wedding and the huge screening that will take place in Eastbourne’s Princes Park, the UK’s sunniest place is launching a search for the best Wills and Kate look-alikes.

Those who think they bear a resemblance to either Prince William or Kate Middleton are being encouraged to submit their photographs via email or upload directly to the VisitEastbourne facebook page for the chance to be crowned King and Queen look-alike at the Eastbourne Royal Wedding event.

All New Aviator Club is Open for Business

Visitors to Airbourne: Eastbourne International Airshow have the chance to book now for the new and improved Aviator Club hospitality marquee offering uninterrupted views directly on the flying line.

The popular seafront airshow returns to the UK’s sunniest place from 11-14 August and promises dynamic flying displays from fast jets to historic aircraft, and from freefall parachutists to international planes.

Top 50 Best B&B Opens Garden this May

Named as one of the top 50 Best B&Bs by the Independent and once the home of Peter Pan artist Mabel Lucie Attwell, Eastbourne’s Ocklynge Manor is taking part in National Gardens Scheme again this year and holding a special open garden on Wednesday 4 May.

Following the success of their inaugural open event last year raising nearly £2,800 for charity and attracting hundreds of visitors, Ocklynge Manor hope to repeat that success this year and will be joined by Lawrie Skinner performing accordion music.

East Sussex Open Showcases Over 30 Regional Artists (2 April - 2 May 2011)

Eastbourne’s award-winning art gallery is opening the doors to its second East Sussex Open this weekend showcasing the work of 36 artists from the region, including the largest painting ever exhibited at Towner.

This year’s open submission exhibition attracted hundreds of entries from artists and makers from East Sussex and the panel of judges, including artists Annika Ström and Julian Sutherland-Beatson and Towner’s exhibition curator Sanna Moore, have picked 36 exceptional applicants to have their work displayed in the gallery’s ground floor exhibition halls.

Bandstand Makes Bold Choice for Big Day

An iconic Sussex landmark can now become part of a couple’s big day as Eastbourne Bandstand is licensed for weddings and ceremonies, offering a venue with a difference in the UK’s sunniest place.

Eastbourne Bandstand, with its semi-circular design, silver finial and blue domed roof, is a unique landmark on the south of England and starting this spring, the majestic 1930s building is available for couples to hire for their special day.
