Creative Partnerships Themed Enquiry Programme
Eastbourne’s award-winning art gallery Towner is delighted to be the lead organisation for a Creative Partnerships Themed Enquiry Programme and will be celebrating the results with a Towner Takeover Day on Thursday 28 April.
Since January Towner has been working with three local primary schools Oakwood, Langney and Bourne for the project, which aims to look at how over 160 pupils and their families can find fun and creative ways to learn through Towner and school life.
Towner’s skilled artist educators have worked closely with teachers to deliver the project, which included workshops at school, trips and activities with their parents at Towner, and creative tasks to do at home with their families.
Towner Takeover Day is an end of project celebratory event giving schools and their families the opportunity to share their artwork and celebrate their experiences of the project. Towner visitors will be able to see the pupils’ work on show around the building throughout the Bank Holiday weekend from 29 April – 2 May.
Artistic Director of Towner Matthew Rowe believes such projects are vital to the Eastbourne community and said “Towner works with many schools throughout the year through our Education & Learning programme; events like this really bring the building alive. Having so many children and their families experiencing the art on display at Towner and creating their own art in response is inspiring. Towner Takeover Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate the pupils’ hard work and thank all involved.”
The project has been funded and managed by Creative Partnerships Sussex and Surrey with additional funding from The Friends of the Towner. The project has enabled three artists Ed Boxall, Saj Fareed and Karen Taylor to work with the participating schools for three months ensuring a high quality creative learning experience for all.
